Never too old to set a new goal or dream a new dream

01-07-2024

C.S. Lewis

This is a tribute to Teresa Witchell, a much-loved and respected member of staff at Bank Cottage Dental, who retired after 50 years, first joining the practice in 1971.

Teresa started as a dental nurse working alongside dentist, Peter Birkett, whilst training in the evenings at the Bristol Dental Hospital. She later left and following having her two children, returned to Bank Cottage Dental to then work with Robin Cole-Morgan.

In 1998 Teresa became the practice manager and it was evident that she had true aptitude and enthusiasm, which resulted in her subsequently being elected President of the Practice Manager Association.

Teresas’ loyalty and commitment were integral to the success of Bank Cottage Dental over the many decades and she is a well known, popular member of Thornbury and the neighbouring community.

Outside of work, Teresa was always keen to help others, and in 2014 Teresa went to Tanzania to support the dental charity, Bridge2Aid. Teresa also supported charities closer to home, including cooking meals for the homeless in Bristol and also volunteered in the COVID vaccination programme at UWE. Much of her free time has also been committed to the annual Bristol Balloon Fiesta where she is a member of the organisation committee and has the huge responsibility in the route planning for the balloonists. Her contribution was recognised by her being presented with the Montgolfier Award for Ballooning.

Her kindness, thoughtfulness and support is hugely missed by everyone at the practice, but glad Teresa has time now to enjoy what adventures retirement brings for her, as she has certainly earned it!

Testimonials

As a person with a fear of dentists who had not visited one in 8 years I can honestly say Dentist Tim Lindop and Nurse Lisa made me feel at ease. They were friendly and professional and I cannot recommend them highly enough. Tim took the time to thoroughly explain to me what he was going to do before beginning which took a lot of my anxiety away. After explaining my concerns Tim was very patient and understanding and the injections I received were very gentle. Excellent dental practice with exceptional staff, I won't be going anywhere else in future.
