The purpose of a filling is to restore the tooth tissue lost due to damage by trauma or decay. It also protects and prevents further damage to the remaining part of the tooth. It restores function of the tooth, which is important when eating and talking, but the biggest impact to patients is when it involves a tooth which is visible, restoring the natural appearance of their smile.
